Catherine Holmes

Catherine Holmes is a dentist, underwater photographer, and watercolour artist who through her imagery hopes to inspire people to nurture and protect our fragile underwater world for future generations to enjoy. Catherine spent her early life in Australia and now lives in England, travelling widely across the globe, venturing underwater to capture images wherever she goes. Her work features images from Indonesia, Red Sea, Galapagos, Maldives and the Caribbean. She would describe her work with watercolours as colourist, which shines through in her photographic work. She strives to portray images that capture the vibrant colours and light underwater in overall painterly compositions. Catherine has won awards in many international competitions, most recently Underwater Photographer of the year 2025 - Coral Reef Category, Ocean Photographer of the Year 2025-Highly Commended Hope category, Siena Awards 2025 highly commended, FPA2 Environmental awards 2024-finalist, European Wildlife Photographer of the year 2023 Underwater category, as well as the Siena photo awards, Underwater Photographer of the Year, Ocean Art, Ocean Geographic and the World Shootout. First place in the Conservation Category in the International Ocean Art competition. Catherine’s imagery and articles have been widely published in Underwater magazines.
